We had a really good day today. Two great soccer games, (my favorite) UFO pizza for lunch, a few errands, a little nap, then smores in the backyard. A good, good day.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

After soccer this morning we ran a few errands. The kids were getting along so well, laughing, playing, being sweet to each other. We actually had fun running errands. All 4 of us. And no one got grounded, or spanked, or turned into crazy mom that makes everyone just a little nervous.

At Sam's, I think they had the most fun. Thank you, Sam's Club, for providing us with giant baskets. The kids both fit and they hardly have to touch. Genius. They played Rock, Paper, Scissors for the better part of the stop at Sam's. But they added a few weapons...In this picture, Trace is doing 'napkin' and Kinsey is doing 'bleach'. There is also a 'food' option. I won't even pretend to know what beats what.

Yep. Chad ran them into another basket. On purpose. And they loved it.

I didn't even try to figure out what they're doing here. I just love seeing smiles on both of their faces...at the same time.

Kid-isms

I am not sure the origin of this conversation, but I'm sure it was a good one. Trace was talking to a friend's 6 yr old daughter. He said, "You have to grow up, marry a man and have kids so you don't have to do any more chores." I guess we tell the kids the reason we have kids is so that we wouldn't have to do chores a little too often.

Chad got a new job recently and we drove out to the building today to show the kids where we works. Here's how the conversation went.
Trace: "Are you going to have to be a worker?"
Chad: "I'm an engineer."
And in true Kinsey fashion, she asked, "So you're the queen?"

Kinsey and Ella were discussing this picture:

Ella: "Why is Trace holding up the number 2?"

Kinsey: "That is the peas sign."

Ella: "Why?"

Kinsey: "I don't know. Probably he had to pee."

Censored

Let me just start by saying that my camera was confiscated, so the lack of a video or even a single, stinkin' picture of this momentus event is not my fault. You'll understand why it was confiscated when you read what it was I so desperately wanted to capture. Even my cell phone was held for ransom.

Chad was showing the kids how to do the back spin. That's right. I said back spin, people. It was great. And by great, I mean the most fantastic effort to relive one's youth I've seen in a long time. I have seen videos of him breakdancing in his teens...and he was REALLY GOOD at it. Let's just say that what I saw tonight was a little different. Nonetheless, I applaud him for getting down and trying it! And it was far, far better than I'd have looked doing it.
Next time I'll try to be sneakier. But let's face it, he knew me before today, so I doubt I'll be successful getting a shot next time, either.

Trace's First Soccer Game

The Sea Dragons made their debut this morning in the heat and bright, bright sunshine. The boys played so hard for 40 minutes. I was hot and sweaty just watching...good thing they're full of energy! They tied 2-2. During warm-up, I was watching the other team and was a little concerned, to say the least. But when the whistle blew, our kids really stepped up!

I don't have many pictures because I was using my camera to take videos and they don't stop the game much at this level. I'll work on that next weekend.

Kinsey's First Soccer Game

The Dragons, the team without the cute name, played their first game this morning. The kids did very well. After watching the practices, I'll admit, I was concerned. The coach is probably 20 and it's very obvious he doesn't have kids. He is coaching his nephew's team. I think his uncle strong-armed him into it. I have to give him lots of credit...he's done a pretty good job with them.

I'm not sure what she was reaching for, but if there's a flower on a field, leave it to a girl playing sports to find it!

Kinsey and Anna...they had never met before being on this team together. Such girls...

Cafeteria Lady

If we were playing baseball, I'd say that tomorrow is opening day. But we are playing soccer and I don't know what they call opening day. I guess we'll just call it the first games of the season. Trace's team is the Sea Dragons, kelly green and navy blue. He is thrilled about the team name! The kids get to choose the names. He said that they had to decide between the Warriors or the Sea Dragons. We are not really sure why they chose Sea Dragons, but they did.

Kinsey's team is the Dragons, light blue and navy blue. True to form...she is not happy about the name or the colors. The name is, evidently, 'not cute'. I will post pictures tomorrow afternoon.

I am responsible for bringing snacks for Kinsey's team this weekend, and after much thought I decided on soccer ball rice krispie treats. When Kinsey saw them she jumped up and down, hugged me and said, "Thanks for being the cafeteria lady for my team!"
I am pretty happy with the way they turned out. But the problem is, I will have to make them again for Trace's team when it's my turn to bring snacks. There are only 6 kids on Kinsey's team. Chad reminded me that there are a lot more Sea Dragons. My back hurts just thinking about making 15 of them......

I'm not sure I really know what to say about this one...

College Day

This weekend is the beginning of the college football season. The local schools took advantage of that and declared Friday college day. All the kids were to wear their favorite college team's colors. It took three attempts, but I finally did manage to get a 'normal' picture out of the kids. But I guess if you think about it...the first two are normal for my kids.

Our Family

Kinsey's homework tonight was to tally up the males and females in our house. I should point out a few highlights.

• After her name is a 5. When she was 4 she started writing her age after her name. It really helps me out when I look back at artwork that I never dated.
• You'll notice the girls look like they've had an overdose of collagen. That would be lipstick. Of course Kinsey's stick figures are wearing lipstick. It's a wonder they're not outfitted with matching purses and shoes.
• The first smiley face with long hair is Kins...her ode to Miley Cyrus.
• And the two female opossum-like stick figures are not in fact babies hanging upside down by their tails. They're Macy and Katie.

  I'm not really sure what the inspiration was behind Chad and Trace's hair. But thankfully it only looks like this on paper. Well, and first thing in the morning...
